Known for its beautiful architecture, Mehrangarh Fort is considered one of the most impressive and best-preserved forts in India. It stands on a rocky hill about 125 metres above Jodhpur, the second-largest city in the state of Rajasthan. Construction of the fort began in 1459 by Rao Jodha, the founder of Jodhpur, and was expanded by successive rulers over 500 years. There are several decorated palaces inside its boundaries, as well as a museum housing many priceless relics of Indian courtly life.
