Happy trails for the 21st century
Today, we’re on the John Muir Trail near Mammoth Lakes in California. The 337-kilometre trail is so long, to hike it all would take you through three national parks: Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia. John Muir’s philosophy about nature, conservation, and the joys of being outdoors can seem quintessentially American. But Muir was born in Dunbar, Scotland to strict, deeply religious parents. When the family immigrated to Wisconsin, Muir’s love of the wilderness began.
