Family of foxes in the Prairies
The swift fox is considered to be the smallest wild dog in North America. They weigh between five to seven pounds and are approximately 12 inches tall. Their distinguishing features include long ears and a long tail. Like most foxes, the swift fox follows an omnivore diet consisting of mammals, insects and fruits as well. During birth, the pups are blind and open their eyes about 10-15 days later. While they have experienced a major decline in population, the swift fox has been reintroduced in parts of Canada.
