Sun setting in Dartmoor National Park, Devon
These are the high moorlands of Dartmoor in the heart of Devon. Geologic evidence indicates that Dartmoor was once heavily forested, but early human occupants began harvesting the trees and the present-day treeless landscape is the result. Because of its centuries-long occupation by humans, Dartmoor is a treasure trove of Neolithic and Bronze Age artifacts, many of them well-preserved by the moor’s deep layer of peat.
