Ruins of Rajgad. Visiting a Maratha fortress
To celebrate Republic Day in India today, we take you to Rajgad Fort. In the 17th century, this fort on the west coast of India was the capital of the Maratha Empire. Today it’s the reward for the long hike to the top, where some visitors opt to spend the night. Just 37 miles from the city of Pune, Rajgad Fort is a popular tourist attraction – especially during monsoon season – and a sprawling relic of India’s history, worth exploring for more than a day.
