Info. Thorn bug, Pico Bonito National Park, Honduras
The critter on our homepage today is commonly called the thorn bug. Restricted to warmer climates, they can be found in countries of Central America, such as Honduras, where this photo was taken, as well as Mexico and parts of Florida… but only if you can see them. These small bugs are a master of disguise, using camouflage to avoid being eaten by predators. Their bodies, which are about 10 millimetres in length, look like the spiky parts of plants, so when they climb to feed on leaves, they can avoid being gobbled up by birds and large insects.
