'Sun Tunnels' by artist Nancy Holt near Lucin, Utah
Multimedia artist Nancy Holt created this large installation northwest of Salt Lake City, Utah. The ‘Sun Tunnels’ are four concrete tubes, 18 feet long and 9 feet in diameter. Arranged in an X formation, the sun tunnels are oriented so that on the winter solstice and also summer solstice (today) the rising and setting sun will appear in the middle of the circular openings. Who says Stonehenge gets all the celestial calendar fun?
