Honoring their service. Marine Corps War Memorial, Arlington, Virginia
Veterans Day, observed every year on November 11, honors all US military veterans—those who have served in war and peace, past and present. It's a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by millions of Americans who have worn a uniform with pride and courage.
One of the most iconic places to commemorate this day is Arlington, Virginia, home to the Marine Corps War Memorial—seen in today's image. Dedicated in 1954, it depicts the famous flag-raising during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II and honors all Marines who gave their lives in defending the United States. Nearby, Arlington National Cemetery hosts the National Veterans Day Observance at the Memorial Amphitheater. The event includes a wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, musical tributes, and remarks from national leaders. It's free and open to the public, drawing thousands each year.
