Celebrating a ‘Grand’ milestone. Snow on the temple
One hundred years ago today, the Grand Canyon was designated as a national park. To celebrate, we’re at the North Rim—one of the only portions of the park that get snow every winter. The snow causes the National Park Service to close the North Rim during winter months, so few visitors get to see in person such incredible views as Isis Temple dusted in winter white. Numerous geologic formations at the North Rim have names referencing mythologies and faiths from around the world. (Vishnu Basement Rocks are nearby.) The ‘temple’ at Isis Temple is an erosion-resistant stone at the top of the mound.
