Celebrating an American Icon. American Eagle Day
Bald eagles are a symbol of strength, determination, and courage. Native to North America, these majestic birds of prey can be easily identified by the iconic white feathers on their head and tail. Bald eagles are known for their sharp eyesight, impressive wingspan, and hunting prowess.
Today's image is of the Tongass National Forest, Alaska, where you'll find the highest nesting density of bald eagles in the world. Eagles are picky when it comes to selecting a tree to nest on. They like trees that are tall enough to offer good visibility of their surroundings. Despite facing numerous challenges, including widespread habitat loss, bald eagles have displayed remarkable recovery and adaptability.
