Castelluccio, Umbria, Italy
In Umbria's Sibillini Mountains National Park stands the idyllic village of Castelluccio. Although the 2016 earthquake has greatly decreased the population of this already small corner of paradise, the flowering poppy fields still attract a myriad of tourists every year. Although the earthquake's impact still lingers, the area is still a locus for family-run activities. In fact, one can find lots of spots offering refreshment and small shops vending tasty comestibles like locally grown lentils. The commitment of local artisans and love for their land, combined with an enviable resourcefulness, have enabled the region to overcome the setbacks from the earthquake and remain a popular tourist destination.
