A curious little otter pup. World Otter Day
Watching cute sea turtles frolicking in the water is always a treat. Beyond being adorable, they are top predators in the food chain, performing an 'otterly' vital role in keeping nearshore ecosystems in balance. Without otters, sea urchins will destroy crucial kelp forests, taking away a source of concealment and food for many other aquatic animals. Unfortunately, these vital members of the marine environment are now at risk of extinction. Every year on the last Wednesday of May, World Otter Day is observed with a single primary goal—to raise awareness about these charming animals and educate people on how to protect them.
