The Isar river, Germany
Today’s scenic landscape isn’t a national park in Canada or the United States, though this breathtaking image suggests that at first glance. Instead, today's day trip takes us to Upper Bavaria in Germany, more precisely to the Isarwinkel, where the Isar river flows into the Sylvenstein reservoir. This impressive natural landscape above Lake Sylvenstein is the perfect destination for extensive hiking tours, with kilometres of trails through the natural gravel bed of the Isar or along its wooded banks (weather dependent). The low-precipitation months offer optimal conditions for a hike. With the melting snow in spring, the risk of flooding increases, and during this time the area should be avoided. In summer, however, the hiking boots may be laced up again.
