Standing 240.5 metres high, the Rheinturm (Rhine Tower) looms over Düsseldorf, the capital of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The striking landmark serves as both a telecommunications spire and tourist attraction, housing a revolving restaurant and observation deck, which offer breathtaking views of the city's skyline. In clear weather, you can see as far as Cologne Cathedral, while visitors peering down from the tower this weekend might spot a few extra cyclists on the Düsseldorf roads: the vibrant city stages the Grand Départ of the 2017 Tour de France today.
