Info. Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary
Today we’re hiking through Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary near Florida's Gulf Coast in south-east United States. A raised boardwalk takes visitors through a pine upland, a wet prairie, around a marsh and into the largest old-growth bald cypress forest in North America. The boardwalk is about 3.5 kilometres long and is clearly built for the terrain – particularly this tree poking through a hole in the path. The walkway allows trekkers to easily navigate the wetlands without trampling the diverse flora and fauna on the damp ground. The forest is home to a wide variety of birds and hundreds of alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles.
