Info. Old surfboards lined up as a fence near Paia, Maui, Hawaii
This surfboard fence can be found outside the town of Paia, on Maui, Hawaii. Local resident Donald Dettloff first created this fence in 1990 to stop his surfboards from getting blown away in a hurricane. He kept adding to his collection and the colourful display became a local landmark. There are now over 600 discarded surfboards wired to the fence, most of which were either donated or salvaged from local junk and vintage stores. The fence even set a Guinness World Record for the largest collection of surfboards.
