In celebration of I-Day
India became an independent nation on this day (also known as I-Day) in 1947. The saffron, white and green flag was approved on July 22nd, 1947, and presented to the country on the day of independence. The wheel in the centre represents Ashoka’s chakra, identifying with unceasing motion and progress. Saffron represents courage, white symbolizes truth and purity; while green stands for life and faith.
This year, the Ministry of Home Affairs has asked all state governments to arrange a digital webcast of flag hoisting ceremonies, and to avoid large gatherings in view of the coronavirus pandemic. Jai Hind!
