76 glorious years of independence. Independence Day
On August 15th, 1947, the Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, hoisted the Indian flag for the first time and marked the end of British rule with his speech, 'Tryst with Destiny.' As a result, India and Pakistan were formed during the tenure of India's last viceroy, Lord Mountbatten. The Independence Movement was led by Mohandas K. Gandhi, who adopted a peaceful and nonviolent approach to end the rule. Today, India celebrates its 76th Independence Day.
