Stormy Mumbai monsoon. A stormy sky behind the Gateway of India, Mumbai
If you look closely at today’s homepage image, you can make out the lettering that says why the Gateway of India was built. It was in 1911 that the majestic structure was erected overlooking the Arabian Sea, to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary. It has since become an icon of the city of Mumbai. Located just across the famous Taj Mahal hotel, this is a favourite walk with Mumbaiites, along Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj Marg. Come monsoon, the place becomes even more alive with dramatic skies like today’s image providing a perfect backdrop for photography.
