So long, 2018. A sparkling celebration in London
Tonight, London's skyline will explode with colour as the capital welcomes in 2019 with a bang. The spectacular annual celebration, organised by the Mayor of London, has been a ticketed event since 2014, and this year just over 100,000 onlookers will huddle around the London Eye on the River Thames to enjoy the show, which will feature around 12,000 fireworks. And even though Big Ben’s famous chimes have been silenced until maintenance on the tower is completed in 2021, the bell will still ring to kick-start the celebrations for the new year. If you don’t have a ticket, you don't have to miss out on all the fun: the dazzling display will be beamed to viewers enjoying a ‘quiet’ night at home.
