Sacred silence
The skeletal remains of the Church of Santa Eulalia in Palenzuela, Spain, evoke an eerie beauty. Built between the 13th and 15th centuries in a Gothic style, the church once served as the ceremonial heart of the small town. Today, its pointed arches and crenellated tower stand in silent testimony to centuries of devotion, decline, and repurposing. After the church fell into disuse in the 19th century, stones from the structure were scavenged to build roads and other public works. Yet its grandeur persists, still evoking a near-spiritual awe.
