Gulf Islands National Seashore in Florida, United States, is a breathtaking ensemble of unspoiled barrier islands, as depicted in today's image. Established in 1971, this gem began forming between 4,500 and 5,400 years ago. The islands stretch along the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico, spanning Florida and Mississippi. It offers visitors over 257 kilometres of pristine white quartz sand beaches, historic forts and aquatic adventures. The seashore includes 16 kilometres of wilderness on Mississippi's Petit Bois and Horn Islands, protecting the unique ecosystems of these regions.
Maritime forests offer peaceful trails, while sea turtles and over 300 species of birds thrive within the park’s protected habitats. Visitors can engage in activities such as kayaking, fishing and snorkelling. Tourists can also explore Fort Pickens, completed in 1834, which is notable for being one of the few Southern strongholds never to fall to Confederate forces. Here, the past meets the present, offering a unique blend of serenity and historical resonance.
