Chiemgau Alps, Germany
Winter has already arrived on the summit of the Kampenwand mountain in the Chiemgau Alps, Germany. While numerous hikers, mountain bikers, climbers, hang-gliders and paragliders enjoy the mountain in spring and summer, things gradually quieten down in the cold season. At this time of year the region becomes an attractive location for snowshoe hikers and touring skiers.
The 1,669-meter-high summit of the Kampenwand is part of the Chiemgau Alps, which are around an hour's drive from Munich. From the summit, the Kampenwand offers breathtaking vistas in every direction. The foothills of the Alps with Lake Chiemsee stretch northwards, and on a clear day you can even spot Munich's television tower in the northwest. In the south – as in this picture – there is a unique view of the Bavarian and Austrian mountains.
