Lechfall, Bavaria
A man-made waterfall built for flood control may not sound like anything to get excited about, but the turquoise-green water of the Lech river and the surrounding alpine forests give Lechfall a dreamlike beauty. Located in Füssen, Bavaria on the German-Austrian border, this 12-metre-high waterfall is a must-see for any nature lover.
Bavaria is a state famed for its verdurous plains, rivers, wooded mountains and, of course, the Bavarian Alps. Set among this picturesque landscape, Lechfall is a superb location for hiking and cycling trails. Choose to take your sturdy boots or opt for a towel for a more relaxing option – the shore beside the waterfall is a great place to spend a lazy afternoon. For photo opportunities, you’ll get some of the best views on the footbridge from which you can watch the fast-flowing water below.
