In memory of Mumtaz Mahal
Today we are featuring the Taj Mahal in remembrance of Mumtaz Mehal, in whose memory Shah Jahan had the Taj built. It was on this day in 1631 that Mumtaz Mahal, the beloved wife of Moghul Shah Jahan, died during childbirth, bearing their 14th child. Shah Jahan spent the next 20 years building the Taj Mahal in Mumtaz’s memory. Apart from being one of the most recognised monuments of the world – and one of the 'New Seven Wonders of the World’ – the Taj is forever etched in time as a symbol of Shah Jahan’s love for Mumtaz.
