Light it up. Sydney gets a little vivid
Although the cold might have you wanting to cuddle up next to a cuppa, if you’re in Sydney, it’s hard to resist the allure of Vivid. Taking place over the course of 23 nights in May, the annual festival celebrates music, ideas, and most importantly, light. As a result, eight precincts across the city will be illuminated, including Darling Harbour, Luna Park, Chatswood and Taronga Zoo. A three-kilometre walk that stretches from the Rocks around Circular Quay to the Royal Botanic Gardens is undoubtedly one of the biggest hotspots amongst locals and tourists, but not before snapping a picture of the iconic Opera House. This year, Los Angeles-based artist-filmmaker Andrew Thomas Huang has collaborated with choreographer Toogie Barcelo, dancer Jenna Moroni, and animation design team Bemo to create ‘Austral Flora Ballet’ - a hypnotic tribute to Australia’s native plant life that, much like today’s image, will be projected onto the building’s sails each evening. Come on, the tea can wait.
