The Cordillera de la Sal in the Cordillera Domeyko Range of Chile

Pictured here is the Cordillera de la Sal (Salt Range), a subrange of the Cordillera Domeyko, which is in turn a range of the Andes that runs north-south, parallel to the northern Chilean coast. If you’re traveling in the region, be sure to pack lots of water. This is the Atacama Desert, a region so dry and at such a high elevation, that NASA has used it to simulate Mars.
