Anybody home?
It's been more than a century since Høgsteinen Lighthouse had a keeper, but here on the majestic expanse of Norway's coast, somehow it doesn't seem all that lonely. Built in the 1850s on a reef reinforced by an artificial jetty, it's been fully automated since 1905, dutifully guiding vessels to the western port of Ålesund. It's a busy job, but during sunny downtimes like this, the lighthouse gladly welcomes visitors to relax on its stone base and bask in the mountainous maritime panorama.
