Over the 'moon'
This patch of rugged land named for its resemblance to the lunar surface is certainly more accessible than the moon—but getting here is still no moonwalk. Though the Moonscape Overlook lies just a few miles outside the town of Hanksville, Utah, it's a bumpy journey by offroad vehicle to get a firsthand gander at this otherworldly environment. But once you've made the trip to this 'moon,' feel free to stay awhile: Administered by the Bureau of Land Management, this area as well as nearby Factory Butte allow free dispersed camping—just make sure to leave no trace on this delicate desert.
