The Canyon De Chelly National Monument, one of the most visited national monuments in the US, is located within the boundaries of the Navajo Nation. The park protects ancient ruins of Indigenous tribes that once lived in the area and still serves as home to about 40 Navajo families. The 34,000-hectare national monument is owned by the Navajo Nation but is managed in cooperation with the National Park Service.
