All is calm, all is bright. Christmas lights on buildings of Domaso, Lake Como, Italy
When the twinkling reflections on Italy's Lake Como outshine the stars, you know Christmas has docked in Domaso. Once a fishing village, this lakeside town now transforms each winter into a glittering display of holiday cheer, where pastel houses, old churches and waterfront villas are wrapped in ribbons of light. The result? A picturesque Christmas scene.
The main waterfront, or lungolago, becomes the star attraction. Churches chime with carols and market stalls pop up selling handmade crafts, warm chestnuts and enough panettone to keep everyone running on sweet energy until the New Year.
At the heart of it all is community. Residents around Lake Como take pride in making the season special, from organising live music in the piazza to staging nativity scenes that look straight out of a Renaissance painting. Even visitors feel part of the celebration—after all, nothing says 'Buon Natale' (Merry Christmas) like being handed a steaming cup of vin brulé, or mulled wine and a smile.
