Most of the time there’s water cascading over the wall here at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Yerba Buena Gardens. Visitors can walk behind the falls to see quotations from the civil rights leader etched into the walls hidden by the tumbling waters—the passage is meant to evoke a sort of baptism for the visitor. Perhaps it’s fitting that the waters are still in this photo, as we observe Martin Luther King Day and take a moment to reflect on King’s efforts and achievements.
