Pride and Joy. Pride Month
Although Pride is often associated with fun celebrations and colourful parades, at its heart, it is a powerful political movement that was born because of the gay liberation protests of Canada in the 1970s. The first Pride Week took place in August 1973 in various cities around the country and has since grown into a global event today.
Taking place every June, the month-long celebration of LGBTQIA+ communities also highlights their struggles and achievements. Different countries celebrate it at different times throughout the year, such as Iceland and their August celebration, which was captured in today's photo. The goal of Pride is to promote the acceptance of love in all its forms, so that LGBTQIA+ communities have the respect, dignity, and equality they deserve.
