Red rock country. Sedona, Arizona
From the moment you step foot in Sedona, Arizona, you will be mesmerised by the stunning vistas and tall red sandstone cliffs jutting from the desert floor. Adventure enthusiasts will appreciate the beauty and serenity of the many trails that dot the region. Sedona is also steeped in Native American history. Although little is known about the earliest settlers in the region due to a lack of written history, they are referred to as 'Ancestral Puebloans.' It is believed they inhabited the area around 1,400 years ago. Most of the information about these ancient people comes from the archaeological ruins that remain, which include huge pueblo complexes that serve as the only vestiges of their glorious past. Other Native American groups came to the area such as the Hakataya, the Hohokam, the Sinagua and the modern-day tribes that live in Arizona today, the Tonto Apaches and the Yavapai.
