National Indigenous Peoples Day marks the celebration of the abundant cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples in Canada. It honours their beliefs, art, and history. A historical site that will transport you back in time is the Petroglyph Provincial Park, situated in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Surrounded by nature, this provincial park houses ancient rock carvings that are approximately 1,000 years old. These carvings are scattered around the park and covered in moss, making them hard to spot. These petroglyphs depict a variety of human figures, animals, and tribal symbols. National Indigenous Peoples Day falls on the same day as the summer solstice and serves as a reminder to acknowledge and learn from these preserved pieces of Indigenous culture.
