The Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac was built on a promontory in what is now the historic district of Old Quebec. The largest city in Quebec is Montreal. With 1.7 million people, it’s the second most populous city in Canada, and the heart of the country's French-speaking populace. The body of water in this image is the St. Lawrence. Its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean made it a desirable outpost for early European settlers.
