This still, glacial lake reflecting the majesty of the surrounding Canadian Rockies is the perfect place for a spot of soul searching. However, access is restricted to tiny Spirit Island, sometimes connected to the shore by a narrow isthmus. To see it in the flesh you’ll have to book on a boat tour of Maligne Lake, said to be the second-largest glacier-fed lake in the world. It’s a great way to enjoy the azure blue waters, pine trees and snow-capped peaks which encircle this spectacular spot.
