Standing 333 metres high, the Tokyo Tower is the second-tallest structure in Japan. It was built in 1958 and its design is based on the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The tower has two viewing decks, offering visitors a breathtaking look across Tokyo. But as well as being a popular tourist destination, the tower also functions as a broadcasting antenna for local television and radio stations.
This summer, Tokyo is hosting the Olympic Games, one year after the event was originally due to start. The events will be held at 42 venues in and around the city. Organisers expect roughly 11,000 athletes from about 200 countries to compete. Four sports will feature at the Olympics for the first time: karate, sport climbing, surfing and skateboarding. Let the Games begin!
