A growing business
This serene scene is of a Christmas tree farm outside Peterborough – Peterborough in the Canadian province of Ontario, that is. Canada is the world's largest exporter of Christmas trees, spreading festive cheer around the world. On this side of the pond, the Norway spruce has been the traditional British Christmas tree since Victorian times although many buyers these days favour a ‘non-drop’ variety like the popular Nordmann Fir. Christmas tree growers across the country compete to supply the big tree that stands outside 10 Downing Street – as voted for by members of the British Christmas Tree Growers Association.
