Pushkar Mela. Sunrise at Pushkar Mela
The Pushkar camel fair, or Kartik mela as it is locally known is an annual affair. This multiday livestock fair attracts something like 200,000 visitors every year. While you could witness one of the largest ‘melas’ of cattle, horses and camels in the country, the evenings bring on the entertainment of cultural activities. Dances and competitions like the tug of war, the ‘matka phod’, camel races and even the ‘longest moustache competition’ keep the entertainment alive. That last one is our favourite, by the way!
