Heading for the Welsh hills. A mountain to climb for these ponies
Wild ponies roam across many areas of the UK, including here at Brecon Beacons National Park – one of three national parks in Wales – where our photograph was taken. These ponies are enjoying the dramatic views atop Hay Bluff, a steep hill popular with ramblers and paragliders rising 677 metres (2,221 feet) at the northern tip of the Black Mountains, which straddle the border of Wales and England. The flat summit of Hay Bluff overlooks the scenic Wye Valley (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and the small market town of Hay-on-Wye, famous for its many bookshops and world-renowned annual literature festival, once described by former US President Bill Clinton as "the Woodstock of the mind".
