Ganesh idols are revered both in homes and in public places, kept on display for 10 days before the ‘visarjan’ into water bodies. Started by none other than Chhatrapathi Sivaji, the festival is observed in remembrance of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati’s son Ganapati.
