A fall in the forest
A few hours' country driving and a short-but-rugged hike will take you from Paraguay's capital, Asunción, to this jewel of the forest. The fall called Salto Cristal tumbles down a terraced stone face nearly 150 feet high, and during the rainy season, its thunderous flow makes approaching difficult. But throughout the sunny, dry period from May to September, the wispy waterfall flows into a calm pool that's perfect for a post-hike swim.
