Twin to the Taj?
Here in India's capital region, Mughal architecture spans centuries. The pictured Safdarjung's Tomb was built in 1754, more than 120 years after the distant Taj Mahal, from which much of its design was borrowed. In contrast, the nearby Red Fort in central Delhi was built in the 1630s, the same decade as the Taj. Even closer to Safdarjung's Tomb is another Mughal mausoleum, Humayun's Tomb—the palatial garden-tomb complex that inspired all others to come when it was built way back in 1565.
