Moose in the mountains

As spring unfolds in Colorado, the backwoods teem with life small and large. We'd say this bull moose belongs in the second category. Moose trounce their deer relatives in size, with bulls weighing up to three-quarters of a ton. And while this hulking hoofer's velvety antlers are still sprouting, they may soon span more than 6 feet. Northerly states like Maine and Alaska boast far bigger moose populations, but Colorado's contingent stands strong at roughly 3,000 and is one of the fastest growing.
