Lovely Liguria
While the Italian region of Liguria is known for its lovely coastal cities and towns, you'll find charm to equal the seaside if you head inland. Villages known as comunes dot hill and dale here, and some are just as steeply situated as those on the sea cliffs. The sloping comune in our photo, Ameglia, lies between the Magra River and Gulf of La Spezia, built on a hillside topped with a well-preserved medieval castle.
