Asiatic elephants at Jim Corbett National Park, India.
The Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) is the only remaining species of the genus Elephas. The dwindling population is distributed across Southeast Asia, including India and Nepal. Studies tell us that the Asian elephant herds are usually smaller than the African variety, with adolescent bull males often going away alone, while a small herd of about three female elephants can usually be seen with the calves. Our little friend here seems like he has no intention of leaving the family any time soon!
