Recreational diving dates back to ancient times, but the modern, organised competitions began in the 1880s in England. Diving was introduced to the Olympics in 1904 and has been a popular part of the Games ever since. This photo, taken earlier this year in February, shows Canadian diver Maxim Bouchard moments after a practice plunge in Rio.
