Scots pine trees on Sula island, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway
Numerous islands dot the west coast of Norway, many of which are uninhabited. But Sula has a few residents, most of them in the village called Hardbakke, with a population of approximately 300. Should any Hardbakkeans need to get away from the hustle and bustle of village life, they can hike up into the towering hills above the hamlet and stroll among the Scots pine that grow in this rugged, chilly landscape.
