The Quebec Bridge holds great significance in the history of Canadian civil engineering. This architectural marvel has a centre span of 549 metres, making it the longest cantilevered bridge in the world. At more than 20 metres wide, it can accommodate two sets of railway tracks, two sets of streetcars, and two roadways.
The bridge has a rich history, plagued with difficulties and challenges with construction. It took over thirty years to complete, with design flaws causing two major collapses in 1907 and 1916. However, The Quebec Bridge as we see it today opened in 1919 and remains a national historic site.
